Someone just mass spent $2.2 MILLION on a Telegram username.
Not a domain.
Not an ENS.
Not a .com.
A Telegram handle.
Telegram has 1b monthly users.
In 2022, they started auctioning usernames as NFTs on TON blockchain through Fragment marketplace.
Your Telegram handle is now a tradeable digital asset, like owning a premium domain, but for the biggest messaging app on the planet.
Yesterday, danbao ('middleman' in Chinese) sold for 1,583,948 $TON (~$2.2M) on Fragment.
That’s the largest Telegram username sale in history.
And it’s not a one-off.
Hours later, xinqun ('new group' in Chinese) sold for 300,000 TON ($379K).
Why Chinese usernames?
Telegram has a massive Chinese user base. Short, meaningful Chinese handles are becoming the equivalent of owning one word .com domains in 1999.
We’re watching premium digital identity pricing play out in real time and 99% of CT hasn’t even heard of Fragment.
