HOW MUCH IS YOUR TRUST WORTH?
CT is blowing up today, lots of discussion about KOLs promoting high-risk / scam projects without clearly disclosing sponsorship.
I’ll share a personal experience.
A few months ago, a project approached me for a marketing + advisor role with very attractive terms. We declined after doing our own due diligence. There were multiple red flags around leadership, reputation, and overall credibility, so it didn’t align with our risk tolerance.
A few trusted contacts also flagged similar concerns early on, which reinforced our decision.
Around the same time, I noticed some famous creators publicly showing support for the project (e.g., keep shilling the project, using their affiliation badge). I privately reached out to someone I know within their group and shared everything what I found, suggesting they reassess the partnership and prioritize protecting their audience.
They acknowledged it and said they’d discuss it internally. But the collaboration continued for months—until the project eventually fell apart. Only then did the public affiliation quietly disappear. Maybe the money was enough for them to sell their followers and reputation? lol
What stood out to me is how quickly the timeline moves on. People forget fast, and consequences often feel minimal.
As for me, I’m taking this as a reminder to be more selective about who I support and who I choose to help going forward...
I don’t get why people are mad or whatever, lol.
Also, if a KOL were that rich, they probably wouldn’t be doing paid promos or at least not so often. (That’s why I don’t fully believe everything I see on my TL, especially the constant “show off” stuff.)
Everyone has a price. If you pay enough, even top-tier people (like Elon or Trump? ) would post for you, it’s just a matter of how many zeros.
Honestly, we should be glad this industry has enough money flowing in to pay creators.
