Witnessing so many on the left justify the murder of Charlie Kirk is disgusting & frightening Political violence is never justified; it only radicalizes people more! The left's fear of fascism & racism has tragically become a self-fulfilling prophecy due to their own actions 🧵 From censorship, propaganda, identity politics, political violence & assassination. The left is becoming what they claim they hate Ouroboros The more extreme the left becomes, the more extreme the right-wing counter movements become... That is how their actions are creating bona fide fascists & racists The political spectrum is like a snake eating its own tail; they come together at the extremes! Identity Politics That is how today, the most extreme leftists actually see eye to eye with neo-fascists & KKK members on segregation, inherent racial differences, & creating separate, racially based laws (affirmative action/Jim Crow) To be very clear on my position on all of this madness; I take the classical position from the civil rights movement, best captured in this quote from the great Martin Luther King Jr: "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character" - Martin Luther King, Jr. To demonstrate how far the political spectrum has moved, according to the more extreme forms of identity politics, Martin Luther King Jr. would be considered a racist today... According to most modern "critical race theory," we should treat people differently according to their ethnicity & gender... Something I refuse to do, as I consider that to be prejudiced! This is also why we might be criticized for hiring based on merit, rather than ethnicity or gender Overton Window Shift This type of insanity actually helps to justify & drives more people on the right towards bona fide racist & fascist belief systems. As it "legitimizes" this pattern of thought, since when you justify discrimination, it cuts both ways! Only a decade ago, I would have considered the risk from fascism & racism to be mostly a fantasy concocted by the left for the purpose of political fear mongering That is no longer the case today, especially after the assassination of Charlie Kirk, who, for the right, is likely to be as significant a figure as Martin Luther King Jr was for the civil rights movement That is why this event is so significant & is creating ripples in history that will likely be felt for centuries Radicalization That is why I am now also concerned about the radicalization of the right. As I am witnessing, everyone, right from the centre, is being pushed further right because of the assassination of Charlie Kirk. This can be a problem for those already on the extremes... This is where I see some people turning to authoritarianism in my feed, a frightening development. That is why, after all of these years, I am coming out with my first political thread now. In a way, this event has even radicalized me The Message We have to remind people what Charlie Kirk actually stood for; he never would have accepted any form of fascism or racism! The left has repeatedly falsely claimed that this is the case, which is what has caused this mess in the first place Every time a leftist calls Trump or whoever else a fascist when that is clearly not the case, it stimulates violence, as some people will take that rhetoric very seriously Charlie Kirk was a freedom of speech champion, a hero of the right, who has now been martyred. I can recognize this without even being a conservative myself, but as a human being with a heart. Recognizing bravery & sincerity in another human being The left & the right are supposed to have the same classical liberal tradition in common! It is so sad to see so many people have forgotten the lessons of history So let's honour Charlie Kirk's name by resisting the temptation to fall into the ideological abyss of authoritarianism in response or revenge Because Charlie Kirk would have wanted us to approach this situation with the same calm common sense with which he approached life While always keeping the north star of reason, truth & freedom front & centre! 🗽
